Winning project

“iCatch - Intelligence System for the Characterization of Multi-Stage Cyberattacks”

The project “iCatch - Intelligence System for the Characterization of Multi-Stage Cyberattacks”, developed by João Orvalho, a student at the Polytechnic Institute of Beja, under the guidance of Prof. Rui Silva from the same institution was the big winner of the 1st edition of INNCYBER.

According to the authors, iCatch is a system that allows the detection of multi-stage cyber attacks. Although there are systems that allow the detection of cyber attacks in isolation, as is the case with IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems), there is a lack of solutions capable of associating the various stages of a cyber attack in a logical sequence. The iCatch goes further using machine learning and other algorithms developed by the authors, having been successfully tested in complex environments and with several attacks simultaneously.

ICatch was awarded a monetary prize in the amount of € 5,000 for the student and € 2,500 for the tutor, delivered by Altice and Altice Labs.
